I grew up in Glenn's Ferry, Idaho with the
Snake River as a back yard. Needless to say I learned to fish (and swim) at a very young age.
I began fishing with the
usual bait, using everything from a stick with fishing line to thetypical spinning outfit.
About 22 years ago, I was introduced
to fly tying, and loved it. Tied some really UGLY flies at first.Along the way something clicked, and Iprogressed
to teaching fly tying today.
After tying for a couple of years, my husband thought it might help me understand what to tie, if
I actually started fly fishing. We went tobeautiful Mirror Lake in Utah's Uinta Mountains, and he forgot (on purpose)
to pack my spinning outfit. So, he handed me a fly rod and a box with some of the flies I had tied. I was hooked!
Never went back to the spinning outfit.
I've made trips to Idaho on a regular basis. In the past, while in Idaho Falls,
I fished the Power Plants, which meant fishing from a cliff, so I stillused spinning gear, til one time I tried a
fly on a fly rod. Hey! it worked, so again, I never went back to the spinning outfit.
Now I am totally a flyfisher.
I
teach fly casting, and fly tying, and prefer casting with fiberglass rods when instructing. Reason being it teaches you to slow
down, and wait for the load up. This method has worked very well.
Iam also aguide at Falcon's Ledge (the private
lakes plus Rock Creek, Yellowstone, and Strawberry rivers), as well as guiding privately on the Provo River andvarious stillwaters.
My
passion is probably more for the moving water, but I do love to fish stillwaters. Favorite stillwaters are afew in Idaho
(Springfield, Daniels, and Henry's Lake) and in Utah (Strawberry, Scofield, and smaller Uinta lakes)
I love all my toys, but
am a sucker for Fiberglass and Bamboo.
I am also the lead singer, keyboard sequencing, and bass player fortheSalt
Lake Cityrock and roll band "Blue deVille"
I go by Fly Girl and Fly Goddess, but I am still Joni T...
Although
Joni is a very talented flyfisher, shewets a linewith many different anglers who use all types of methods for catching
fish, fromlures to bait... Please don't hesitate to contact her with your questions, or just to shoot the breeze about
